Amenities related to the single-location consolidation of Wagner Equipment and Wagner Rents included an outdoor gazebo area for employee use. In the arid New Mexico landscape, lawns require considerable resources to maintain. Owners were looking for a durable but attractive alternative to easy-to-shape turf grass.

Responsible development in arid regions like Farmington, New Mexico, requires careful consideration of planned water use. Business owners, like the consolidated Wagner operation, have to strike a balance between aesthetics for their new yard and buildings, and the demand these designs place on available resources. From an economic perspective, design solutions also need to consider maintenance costs and the poor quality of native soils. Constant exposure to the elements can be a challenge for any material.
HyrdroTurf Z offers the aesthetics of vegetation with no need for ongoing maintenance. As a Nilex dealer, Wagner Rents was familiar with the successful installation of this product in a similar environment: Bloomfield, New Mexico. Although HydroTurf truly shines when used in high-scour heavy flow hydraulic applications, the tidy Bloomfield city medians installation proved the aesthetic qualities of this unique product and its 50-year lifespan. The project endorsements from Bloomfield’s mayor helped support the team’s intention to explore this product solution.
One advantage of HydroTurf Z is the ease with which it can be installed neatly around existing amenities and the lack of heavy equipment required for this work. Nilex and the manufacturer are also readily available to assist in project design and installation. The turf mats were unrolled, placed and trimmed to accommodate the existing sidewalk and gazebo base. Once done, the seams were welded with a heat gun. The HydroBinder was spread using a small walk-behind powered sweeper (power broom). Installation of 4,000 ft2 (372 m2) took a crew of four three eight-hour days to complete.
HydroTurf Z provided the new Wagner facility with an aesthetically-pleasing low-maintenance solution that improved their property and added an attractive amenity for employees. The solution is also environmentally responsible, as it will require far fewer resources than a similar version built with turf grass.
