The City of Lexington Kentucky has an extensive Parks and Recreation Department that manages athletics courts throughout the city. These courts have been in use for a number of years and are beginning to deteriorate. One of the major problems with the asphalt base of these courts is cracking. Once a crack develops it continues to expand. Representatives from Site Supply approached the city with the ACE Fiber product as a possible additive to the asphalt to strengthen the pavement. Because ACE Fibers reinforces the bitumen in the pavement it helps it to prevent cracking and extend the life of the court.
Southland Park tennis court is a two court setup on the Southeast side of Lexington. The project involved demolishing the existing courts then placing the aggregate base and overlaying it with approximately 3” of base and surface. McGlone Construction placed the asphalt and ATS Construction was the producer. The base course was laid in the morning and after a brief period the contractor placed the surface course. There were no issues with the production or placement of the material.
